Mold Damage Removal Training for NuBilt Team

Jun 25th, 2009No Comments

Every year, it is imperative to keep up on continuing education. For two consecutive days in June, NuBilt staff received training in the latest techniques in mold remediation. The courses were presented by Doug Squire from Interactive Occupational Training (IOT). The first day was in the classroom all day. The second day was about half in the classroom and half in the warehouse doing hands-on training. The hands-on training included setting up different types of containment barriers and performing proper cleaning of the contamination and mold damage. After the training, the attendees were tested on what they learned. Their credits earned go to their IICRC Certifications.

NuBilt Joins The Apartment Association for Metro Denver (AAMD)

Apr 21st, 2009No Comments

The starting of 2009 ushered in many advancements for NuBilt. One aspect we decided to focus on was furthering our target markets. In the past, NuBilt was mainly focused on restoring residential properties with some multi-family projects here-and-there. Now, we are heavily pursuing commercial property and multi-family property restoration and renovations because we have the knowledgeable staff to undertake, not only the smaller jobs but, the bigger ones as well.

Recently, we signed up as members of the Apartment Association of Metro Denver (AAMD). We will be attending our first trade-show on May 20th, so we’re very excited and anxious to get started. We hope to make a big splash at the trade-show and develop new clients and friendships.

Helping Hand Program: NuBilt Rescues Water-Damaged Condo Owner in Aurora

Mar 4th, 2009No Comments

Vanessa H. was a property owner that suffered from a frozen pipe break back in December of 2008. The busted pipe flooded the kitchen, bathroom, living room and garage of her townhome. The portion of pipes that broke (located behind the refrigerator) were not insulated or behind a wall, leaving them susceptible to freezing.

NuBilt Restoration & Construction responded to the emergency water loss and provided the water mitigation services. The deliberation was still ongoing about who was responsible for the emergency and reconstruction services balance. The HOA (Homeowner’s Association) insurance coverage guidelines do not include coverage for any exposed piping inside a unit and the insurance coverage of the property owner was not inclusive enough to handle the total cost to clean up all the areas affected.

She was left with an incomplete house and slim options. All avenues were exhausted for the homeowner as for obtaining assistance. The NuBilt team became concerned about Vanessa and her kids’ situation and the time that it was taking to get the situation resolved. The NuBilt team decided they would step up and get the property back to pre-loss condition regardless of compensation.

The NuBilt team was able to provide Vanessa with materials and labor to get her home back to normal in a timely manner. They did make sure the replaced pipe was properly insulated and set behind the wall to prevent future pipe freezes. In the end, the reconstruction services that NuBilt provided were estimated to be $3,121.51. NuBilt was happy offer a helping hand to Vanessa and her kids as they were faced with a situation that disrupted their lives.

TES – World’s Fastest Structural Drying System

Feb 6th, 2009No Comments

Have you heard of the TES (Thermal Energy System)?  It is the world’s fastest drying system and the latest in drying technology. NuBilt Restoration & Construction has recently added a TES to their arsenal of drying equipment.  NuBilt has always been keen on staying on top of technology in their efforts to minimize cost and the time of the restoration process.

The TES dries most water damages in 30 hours or less. TES utilizes the “Reets Evaporation Method,” which forces a high volume of heat directly to the water-saturated area, rapidly evaporating the water. The vapor is then eliminated with air evacuation/dehumidification. All this boils down to: real dry, real fast. That means less damage, and less money lost.

Advantages of TES:

  • Dry carpet/carpet cushion in place, saving carpet cushion replacement
  • Dry the walls, sill plates, and wall cavities without removing the wall boards
  • Dry hardwoods, substrates, tile and concrete with non-destructive tenting
  • Prevent mold, rot and decay from prolonged soaking
  • Negative pressure air-flow allows inhabitants to live or work in unaffected areas of home or business
  • Inconvenience and out-of-home expenses are eliminated or greatly reduced
  • Drying without demolition—saves labor, hauling, replacement and repair
  • It’s quiet and only uses 30 to 35 amps for the total job

Colorado Winterizing – 10 Tips To Prepare Your Property For the Winter

Nov 19th, 20081 Comment

Snow Damage DenverAlthough the official start of winter has not commenced yet (not until December 21st), a great amount of snow has already fallen in Colorado this year. The early snowfall more than likely served as a wakeup call and a reminder to prepare your property for the oncoming colder temperatures, if you haven’t already done so.

As a restoration company, we consistently see the same property issues arise with the harsh weather conditions. Therefore, we decided to put together ten tips to help prevent or minimize potential property damages caused by the cold and harsh weather.

1. Landscape Cleanup. Be sure to cut or trim back any trees or shrubs touching the roof or exterior of the property to prevent possible damage.

2. Clean Gutters & Downspouts. Clogged gutters can cause ice damming which can result in roof damages and roof leaks. Inserting leaf guards on gutters would be recommended.

3. Blow Out Irrigation Lines. Trapped water in sprinkler lines can easily be a cause for broken lines later. It is critical that hoses are drained and disconnected from any water source. The whereabouts of the water mains should be well-known in case of the need for an emergency shut-off. If there are exposed water pipes, it would be wise to insulate the piping.

4. Inspect Locations with Possible Outside Air Drafts. Weather-stripping around doors should be checked and upgraded if need be. Window screens and insulation should also be inspected. Any cracks in the foundations or exterior walls should be repaired and sealed properly.

5. Keep Vents & Interior Doors Open. Proper circulation needs to be present throughout house to prevent freezes. Furthermore, if it has been a while since the air ducts have been cleaned, it may be a good time to do so. All vents should be cleaned so no blockage is present.

6. Service Furnace or Other Heating System. Replace filters as needed to maximize air flow. Make sure flammable material is away from the heating system.

7. Inspect & Clean the Fireplace & Chimney.Soot and creosote should be removed if present. Be sure to close the fireplace damper when not in use.

8. Recharge Fire Extinguishers. People often spend more time in the house during winter months. Cooking appliances and extra heating devices are used more which increases chances for fires.

9. Inspect Fire & Smoke Alarms. Alarms should be tested to make sure they are working properly.

10. Keep Thermostat Above 55°F. If your property is going to be vacant for any amount of time, it is still essential to maintain the heat in your property. Frozen pipes can be directly related to thermostats being shut off or turned down too low.

NuBilt is always ready 24/7 to respond to winter damage related mitigation (structural collapse, board-ups, shoring, etc.) and repair requests. Call 303.368.4688.
