House Fire at the American Red Cross Event

On March 18, 2010, NuBilt Restoration & Construction, a Denver based firm which has responded to disaster (structural fire & water damage) for the past 16 years, created a house fire simulation scene for the American Red Cross Breakfast of Champions at the Colorado Convention Center. This is the 8th year the Red Cross has celebrated those who have displayed courage and compassion in their actions with the Breakfast of Champions event. Approximately 700 attendees were present which included the Mayor John Hickenlooper and the Denver Fire Chief Jim Sestrich.

Prior to the event, NuBilt with the assistance of Delgado and Sons Construction, worked many hours on planning and building the fire disaster simulation. Last year at the BOC event, the theme was ‘Blizzards in Colorado’ and the disaster simulation that was created “wowed” the attendees–which meant this year, NuBilt had some big shoes to fill.

For the building of the simulation, NuBilt created the first motif to demonstrate a child’s room on fire. With the help of a fog machine, theatrical lighting, heating elements and sound, the feel and look of a live fire was created. The second motif demonstrated the room after it had been burnt with boarded up windows. The third motif showed the American Red Cross Disaster Response Team on site and caring for the victims. The fourth and final scene was the child’s room restored back to pre-loss condition with the child and his mother playing with his toys. In the end, attendees were able to appreciate the devastating impact a house fire can have. The scene was a success and helped demonstrate the American Red Cross’s vital role for property fires and caring for the victims affected.
