DataLoggers - The Future of Documentation is Here

    By Ron Colling

For real estate, it's LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION. For water damage work, it's DOCUMENTATION, DOCUMENTATION, DOCUMENTATION.

There are many measurements to take and record - air temperature, relative humidity, moisture content and surface temperature. Wouldn't it be nice to automate part of the process?

Well, that's what dataloggers can do - they can automate the recording process and help your presentation be impressive. You be the judge. Which looks cleaner, neater and more professional for the adjuster or home owner?

DataLogger System - NuBilt DenverI'm not suggesting that daily readings should not be taken or that dataloggers totally replace manual readings. I am suggesting that the presentation does look better from the logger. Image 2 was produced by an Extech Datalogger & Software - AC117.

    IN BRIEF
Here are the benefits to using a datalogger:

    POINT 1:
The presentation /documentation for the file.

    POINT 2:
    An analysis tool;

    • Because it is taking more readings, you can spot red flags easily.
      • Changes due to HVAC system
      • Documenting occupants turning off equipment
      • Documenting equipment failure
      • Comparison for your manual readings
    • Grains Per Pound (GPP) can be recalculated at any time during the logging
      • Dew Point (DP) is displayed, so as the DP decreases, so does your GPP
    • See exactly when you reach your drying benchmark

This datalogger can record up to 16,000 data points. At a rate of once every 5 minutes (you can select from 2 seconds to 24 hours), the logger could record for over 55 days - plenty of time for even your worst drying job.

Since loggers don't get moved to extreme differences in temperature or humidity, acclamation isn't a problem and can show the incremental changes easily. The AC117 has an operation range of: Humidity:0 to 100% & RH & Temperature: -40° to 158°F (-40 to 70°C).

If you want to get even more detailed, add moisture content readings and be able to access your data remotely, then look at the new Hygro-Trac system.
